52 Pick Up

Found and ‘picked’ up, Edwina White recycles paper scraps into playing cards.

52 Pick Up

Named after the practical joke in which you exhibit your inner cruelty by suggesting a game of ‘52 card pick up’ to a ‘friend’ then promptly scatter all the playing cards on the floor, Edwina White’s version of the namesake is substantially less cruel.
The game that has tormented children worldwide takes on a kinder incarnation thanks to the Brooklyn-based illustrator who works with found materials.
Scraps of paper are decorated with quirky and delicate hand drawings, often made up of tiny pattens and collated prints, transforming the entire deck of cards into a set of artworks.
The Sydney-born artist graduated in Visual Communications and her drawings, installations and animations have been exhibited in the United States, Australia and in the UK.
The cute and quirky decks of cards are available online.
