The Powerhouse Museum announced the launch of the Powerhouse Museum International Lace Award, aimed at encouraging contemporary designers and artists to approach lace in new ways.
The Award aims to broaden people’s perception of lace, moving away from traditional style to encouraging its use in contemporary fashion and digital media.
Professional and amateur artists, designers and practitioners around the world are invited to submit an Expression of Interest for the award, which will culminate in 30 finalists being exhibited at the Powerhouse Museum and an overall winner awarded AU$20,000 in prize money.
Judges will consist of international and Australian experts of lace, fashion, design and architecture, including Rosemary Shepherd and Akira Isogawa.
Expressions of Interest must be received by 29 March 2010 and from these approximately 30 works will be selected for consideration for exhibition in July 2011.
