November 18th, 2010
In this short documentary film produced by Kirsten Stanisich and Andrea Nixon, six of Australia’s most successful designers under the age of 40 got together to discuss parallels in their work, spanning fashion, interiors and graphics.
The line-up was: Andrew van der Westhuysen (graphic designer, 3D animator and co-owner of Collider, recently listed in the Power 20 issue of Australian Creative); Andrew and Mark Moffit (twin art directors of Moffit.Moffit); Matthew Herbert (Melbourne-based architect who designs retail spaces for innovative brands like Ksubi, Mimco, Roy); Therese Rawsthorne (fashion designer and retailer); Kelvin Ho (architect with a instinct for retail brand design: The Corner Store, Sass and Bide, Incu).
This was an insightful account of the current issues facing local creatives, from sustainability, celebrity cultism and commercial success to the perennial global-versus-local conundrum. The film is a not-for-profit initiative by the Design Institute of Australia.
