You would think 8,000 variations would be enough, but Fritz Hansen together with British designer Benjamin Hubert have just unveiled a new extension to the super adaptable Pair chair.
February 8th, 2017
A new family member joins the Pair collection, an intelligent seating system created by British designer Benjamin Hubert of experience design agency Layer for the Danish furniture brand Fritz Hansen.
A super flexible modular seating system with over 8,000 possible variations, the Pair collection entered the market last year following three years of development with about 30 prototyping stages. Designed as a single product adaptable to any interior environment, the Pair chair merges the mid-century aesthetic pioneered by Fritz Hansen with modern functionality; for instance, the pressed plywood seat shell is paired with an injection moulded polycarbonate backrest with glass-like qualities to modernise the Fritz Hansen material palette.
To be launched this month at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, the Pair star base joins the modular system of components to increase the number of possible seating combinations for the versatile lightweight chair.
Adding a more office driven design direction to the Pair collection, the new star base works with the flexible polycarbonate backrest to effortlessly assume an ergonomic office chair’s personality, complete with caster wheels and minus the complex engineering associated with conventional task chairs.
The updated Pair collection of modular components now includes a star base in chrome and black finishes; two backrest options (with and without arms) in a choice of four colours; two leg options (sled base and four legs) in five colours; one seat, also in five colours; and one optional cushion in a choice of 40 colours.
