Available now at XTRA, Cappellini’s range of modern Italian furniture, lighting and accessories is characterised by experimentation and the exploration of new ways of living.

Cappellini has gone from a small family business specialising in wooden furniture and casegoods in the ’40s to a foremost Italian label today that has made its designs known and accessible worldwide. Most recently, its contemporary furniture, lighting and accessories collections have found their place in XTRA‘s showroom located at Marina Square, Singapore.
Cappellini’s lasting success and enduring appeal stems from its quest for innovation, when Giulio Cappellini, founder Enrico Cappellini’s son, brought his passion for art and design to the business in the 70s. His modus operandi of scouting global talents to collaborate with, which is still practiced by the company today, has made Cappellini a bona fide trendsetter and launched some of the world’s greatest designers such as Marcel Wanders, Jasper Morrison and the Bouroullec brothers. Unlike many other luxury Italian companies, Cappellini does not have a defining style. Rather, its collection embodies the eclectic language of the designers who created them.
At its core, Cappellini’s collection is characterised by experimentation and the exploration of new ways of living, furnishing the whole domestic landscape from the living room to the studio and bedroom, but also contract areas such as lounges, hotels and restaurants. Many of these products have also become iconic pieces.
The Revolving Cabinet designed by Shiro Kuramata in 1970 was completely revolutionary during its time of conception. Made of a glossy red acrylic plastic material and equipped with 20 drawers that rotate around a vertical metal stand, it serves as a sculptural provocation to live beautifully.
Other equally sculptural yet highly functional pieces include the Sofa with Arms armchair by Shiro Kuramata and the Thinking Man’s Chair by Jasper Morrison, both of which were launched in the 80s and captured the innovative spirit of Cappellini.
More recent yet revered products include the Gong collection of occasional tables (2004-2021) by Giulio Cappellini and the Lud’o Lounge armchair (2020) by Patricia Urquiola, which ingenious construction is entirely based on the idea of wearability and sustainability.
From chairs to tables and cabinets to accessories, every Cappellini creation has a unique history – a story that embodies the inspirations, interpretations, stylistic diversion, research and authenticity.
