Studioart’s tenth anniversary celebration at the strikingly beautiful Villa La Rotonda in Vicenza, Italy in September last year was also the setting for a preview of a brand new collection of leather wall coverings created by a trio of emerging designers. After being launched in Paris earlier this year, now they are available in Singapore and Malaysia from Tatum.

Engaged by Studioart for a unique creative collaboration to mark the tenth anniversary of the Italian leather furnishings company, the three designers – Massimo Brancati from Studioart, Elaine Yan Ling Ng of The Fabrick Lab, and Giorgia Zanellato – were given a brief to reinterpret the signature Leatherwall collection of wall coverings.

The Anniversary Collection is the result of this collaborative effort where the designers – under the guidance of Studioart President and co-founder Nadia Dalle Mese – have explored innovative combinations by merging contemporary creative flair with a highly versatile material, handcrafted artisanal skills and proven production techniques.

Massimo Brancati represents the third generation of the Dalle Mese family, the founders of Studioart. Brancati’s designs (Kaleido, Frammenti and Woods) stand out for their seeming randomness and irregularity. Kaleido plays with two simple Studioart shapes – the square and the triangle – to create perspective, geometry and movement. Frammenti uses six different shapes in an apparently random pattern to project irregularity. Woods’ three-dimensionality comes from a leather tile that’s padded and flat at the same time.

Elaine Yan Ling Ng’s designs (Parallel, Hyperreal, Delta and Vector) explore the repetitive patterns found in nature, and their connection to complex mathematical formulas. The Hong Kong designer’s collection combines volumes and optical effects in original patterns based on concepts such as infinity, change, space and repetition.

Giorgia Zanellato’s collection (Onda, Semitondo, Ginko and Losange) stands out for its simplicity and attention to detail, as well as its pastel palette. Onda features a flowing stitch on the padded surface of the leather tile; Semitondo responds to the designer’s fascination with geometric shapes, especially circles; Ginko’s iconic leaf reflects positivity; and Losange has a very simple and flexible shape that can enhance the beautiful colours and textures of Studioart leathers.
