The Project is the spectacular, collaborative installation series that is one of the main features of Singapore Indesign: The Event (previously named ‘Saturday in Design’). It showcases what creative and ambitious design talents are able to achieve with a high-end supplier and a freewheeling brief.
At the XTRA showroom – Herman Miller collaborated with Black Design to curate an installation by Monster Gallery, Fiore Dorato and Mindflyer
Every year, the series is given a loose theme, which for 2014 is Future: If we were to see beyond today, what would we find? In The Project, we look at what is to come.
With such a flexible brief, The Project’s participants will be free to create something that expresses a different side of themselves, and display their style and vision to a large international audience.

The Project works by pairing artists, designers, studios or other creative forces with international and local high-end suppliers to the architecture and design industry. They then work together to create engaging, interactive installation experiences that are featured during Singapore Indesign: The Event.
At the 2012 Singapore event, almost 3,500 industry visitors engaged with the Project installations, and there was media coverage of the works across the Asia Pacific. Highlights were diverse, demonstrating very different interpretations and styles of thinking around the theme, Hybrid. Some showrooms were transformed into lush gardens while others were decorated with wall murals or had installations coming down from the ceiling. Many also actively engaged the audience and invited visitor participation.

Not just for professionals, The Project 2012 also included a collaborative effort with students. SCA worked with Lasalle College of the Arts to create astonishing optical illusions that were not only thought-provoking and visually stunning, but managed to highlight the different products in the showroom.
