The Queensaland design collective attracted both the public’s and the judges’ attention at this year’s Dwell on Design; earning the award for Best in Show and drawing large crowds to their colorful booth.
July 10th, 2012

Each of the six brands/designers that comprise Quench represented themselves individually whilst also sharing a booth, an efficient and effective means of pooling resources and evidencing any continuity between their products. In particluar the use of brightly-coloured powder-coated steel incorporated into sturdy, functional furniture and lighting spanned the various designers’ work, from Luxx Box’s ’Watch Out’ lights to Bjorn Rust’s ’Pour-Over’ manual coffee-maker.

David Shaw’s “Flow” planter combines an outdoor bench with a soil-holding volume where plants can grow and demonstrates the clean, intelligent approach he and his studio (Street and Garden Furniture Co.) have pursued in their public works designs.
’Picket’, a charming table from Alexander Lotersztain and his studio Derlot Editions, features a Tasmanian oak tale-top and solid, rounded, colourful legs.

Luxxboxe’s Milk Stool championed the vibrant hues of the collective with ’Milk stool’, the recyclable polyethylene ’Tingle seat’, and ’Watch Out’, a colorful take on the industrial sconce.

Surya Graf’s ’PROP’ stool seating series is composed of a combination of HDPE plastic and folded steel support brackets. All parts can be disassembled into its component parts for ease of freight and recycling at end of life.

Marc Harrison presented a redesign of his 1996 ANTon Stool, made from Tasmanian Ash legs, Painted Pine base and 100% wool felt fabric.

Quench also put together a video of their booth at Dwell on Design which you can view here.
