Tasked with a brief to create offices in a shared working space, Taylor Construction Group looked to Karndean to help fulfil the Macquarie University vision of the Australian Hearing Hub

As an initiative of Macquarie University, the Australian Hearing Hub is set to bring some of Australia’s leading hearing and healthcare professionals and groups together to focus on research and collaboration on world-leading research projects.

The design team at Taylor Constructions opted for an aesthetic of soft blonde highlights and a distinctive grain pattern courtesy of Karndean’s Providence range. Adding to this light wood motif, designer flooring was used to cordon off different work paces, while still retaining an open plan design.

Suitably for a space designed around hearing research, Macquarie University needed a floor that would offset noise in an open plan office. The LooseLay flooring from Karndean features acoustic backing, which reduces noise levels in the rooms below, making it a clear choice.

“The brilliant acoustic properties of Karndean LooseLay was a key factor in the architect’s selection. Across a multi-level building, LooseLay is a quiet alternative to a hard flooring surface,” says Taylor Construction’s project coordinator BVen Cauchi, “In a design process, there can be changes at short notice, as such this was a great solution for us going forward. It was quick to install and allowed us to get the job over the line to our agreed program. The client is very happy with the finished product.”
