Ben McCarthy gives us his tour of the new Sicis venue in Wan Chai, Hong Kong

Italian brand Sicis opened its new showroom in Hong Kong last week, and while the intricate mosaics could possibly feel too eccentric for most domestic applications, given China’s appetite for conspicuous luxury, they appear well suited to projects in the region – obviously a strategy behind this large flagship store.

The two-floor venue in Wan Chai demonstrates a cross section of its most significant products – wall panels, flooring and lighting – in a diverse range of colours and materials. This is punctuated by Next Art furniture pieces, designed by Christian Lacroix and Cara Tolomeo, and the flamboyant Audrey bath, which dominates the front window.

With a constantly evolving 25-year-old portfolio, the brand is launching its OrienTale Collection spearheaded by Ikebana Panels, which draw inspiration from journeys on the Silk Road, and various Japanese floral motifs executed in a mix of colourful iridescent glasses. This collection, like all Sicis products, is made entirely at its ‘art mosaic factory’ in Italy.

From raw material to the finished product, the brand is able to control the entire process, which affords it a consistent overview of design, craftsmanship and quality. Coupled with the ‘Made in Italy’ accreditation, that surely adds gravitas for new markets.
