Marginal Notes 2012 by Note Design Studio

The intrepid adventurers at Stockholm-based Note Design Studio ventured deep into the forest to find inspiration for their newest collection, Marginal Notes 2012.

The ideas for their pieces came from the sketches in the margins of the field notes from their scientific mission – “those unique sketches that pop out when you look again, the ones you need to realise,” say the designers.

Each resulting piece relates to either the idea of Base Camp – basic objects like screens, filters and cages – or tools for exploration.

’Tuck’ is a pouf for sitting on, with a side pocket for magazines, inspired by a vision of a bearded man in a red beanie.

’Sifter’ is a coat-hanger with a net to catch falling keys or pocket items, or to store hats and gloves, inspired by a sifter on an excavation site.

’Mosquito’ frames for shielding, transparent boxes for storing things in, wooden display cubes, a swing-arm lamp inspired by a butterfly net and benches resembling tree logs make up the collection.

Marginal Notes 2012 is a testament to the importance of being inquisitive; as the designers say, “to explore your surroundings, to find the beauty and detail in them, to find the respect for them, and to find a way to interact in a fair way with them.”
