The Light Box House, featuring glass floor panels from Bent and Curved Glass, wins top honour at Viridian Vision Awards.

Custom toughened structural laminated glass floor panels from Bent and Curved Glass have contributed towards Sam Crawford Architects’ innovative Light Box House winning the prestigious Viridian Vision Award for Best Residential Interiors Use of Glass.

2 x 15mm layers of toughened glass and a 6mm top layer, laminated together, allow light to flow throughout an inner city Sydney terrace.

At the external entry to the house, a glass floor by Bent and Curved Glass incorporates an antislip frost seraphic frit fired into the top surface.

Glass replaces what was originally a tiled front porch, allowing light to enter a previously dark basement-level kitchen and dining room.

Inside, the glass floor to the landing bridge outside the bathroom includes an interlayer which gives the effect of a translucent luminous glow.

“The luminosity of the glass and the sense of space it creates is very important,” said the architects.

“Glass allowed the conceptual idea for the project to be played out. A single sculptural staircase weaves together the 3 levels from a heavy concrete base at the lower ground level to a luminous platform of steel and glass at the upper level.”

The Light Box project is one of many examples of Bent and Curved Glass’ commitment to developing new methods and techniques to meet the growing demands for flat and curved structural glass applications, including floor panels, stair treads, pool windows and wet edges, structural balustrades, roof and awning panels.
