Firstly, tell us a bit about the BBC Worldwide project.
Thoughtspace took two geographically separate BBC Worldwide offices and created a dynamic 2000m2 workplace in Macquarie Park’s media precinct.
BBC Worldwide’s new headquarters boasts a large expanse of office-free open plan environment peppered with a variety of working lounges and alternative activity-based working areas.
The organisation believed that there needed to be an element of ‘fun’ introduced into the typical workplace in addition to the functional aspects of commercial interior design.
Can you give us a brief history of Thoughtspace?
Thoughtspace was created in May 2009 and founded on the simple concept of one team offering a more productive and enjoyable way to work and live.
We are united by a desire to create great design.
Who are the personalities behind the brand?
The three directors are Ian Worthy, Ali McShane and Selena Atkinson, who are supported by an agile team of talented and experienced designers.
We design across disciplines to provide memorable, fresh and creative solutions.
What do each of you find inspiring?
We are inspired by thoughtful, creative places, be it commercial, public or retail, which encourage people to linger and interact.
What are your combined skills/professional attributes?
Each of us is a qualified interior designer. We bring together backgrounds in advertising, marketing, retail, brand management, hospitality and management.
We are a group of inventive and creative thinkers who together with passion, drive and a sense of fun can translate a brand into a unique design solution.
