A contemporary jewellery designer lights up Sydney’s Metalab.

The gold and silversmith trade may date back multiple millennia, but Cinnamon Lee’s work is as contemporary as it gets.

Based in Canberra  – where she lectures at the Australian National University School of Art – her unusual approach to object and jewellery design has garnered her nationwide acclaim over her 12-year practice.

Combining 3D computer modelling work with traditional techniques – Lee marries the realms of lighting and jewellery to unconventional and elaborate effects.

Her latest exhibition ‘Twilight’ showcases the results of her research during a Master of Philosophy candidacy, which examined the potential of digital technology for lamp design.

The Twilight works, showcased throughout April at Sydney’s Metalab, demonstrate her fascination with artificial illumination in the context of her gold and silversmith practice.  

To accompany the exhibition Lee will be holding a one-day workshop on Saturday 17 April, focusing on incorporating lighting into objects and adornments for the body.

Participants will be shown the basic principles of working with LED lighting and batteries as a design element in jewellery or objects.

Twilight will be showing from Thursday 8 April until Thursday 29 April at Surry Hills’ Metalab.
