The Snap Collective in association with VIVID Sydney 2015, will host a moderated discussion
lead by design consultant and curator Anne-Maree Sargeant. The highly influential panel of industry insiders will consider poignant industry questions such as: What is replica? Where did it come from? And what does it mean for the future of original furniture & lighting design?

GET REAL – DON’T BE FAKE! Created by THE SNAP COLLECTIVE in association with VIVID IDEAS 2015, is set to explore issues surrounding the proliferation of fake designer furniture.

While, no doubt you’ve had many discussions on this toxic issue, the GET REAL, DON’T BE FAKE panel will take it one step further, looking at the impact on the people who create original products, emphasising the importance of supporting authentic designs and the future of our industry. Ultimately answering the question: Is the proliferation of ‘replica’ killing local creativity and manufacturing – and what can be done about it?

When a fake ROLEX or Louis Vuitton handbag is universally considered to be a ‘copy’ – why is fake designer furniture called ‘replica’? If it’s illegal to download a bit torrent movie or a book – why is it legal in Australia to copy original designer furniture and lighting? How would you react if your work has been plagiarised?
