Melbourne personalities face up to the Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge.

This year’s Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show sees the return of the Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge, with Victoria premier Ted Baillieu and Better Homes and Gardens amongst the contenders.

Building on the success of the past two years’ events, the Cubby House Challenge is an opportunity for builders and designers to test their skills and imagination by creating fun, functional cubby houses. Creations will be on display for the duration of the show and then raffled and auctioned to raise funds for Kids Under Cover.

The Shop, 2011

Previous designs have exhibited vibrant colours, imaginative, playful volumes and use of recycled and reusable materials, with last year’s winner The Glow House adding the extra dimension of glowing at night, sure to delight its inhabitants.

2012 contenders include a team led by Victoria premier Ted Baillieu, Channel 7’s Better Homes and Gardens, Six Degrees Architects and Ducon Pty Ltd, Burbank and Smith Madden with Harris HMC.

Proceeds of the auction and raffle will go to Kids Under Cover, a not-for-profit organisation that works to prevent youth homelessness and encourage healthy development in at risk young people.

The Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show is on from March 28 to April 1 at the Royal Exhibition Building and surrounding Carlton Gardens.
