The latest product from Zenith Hong Kong by Belgian company BuzziSpace is a highly versatile table that provides a different function depending on the hour of the day or the needs of the worker.

BuzziPicNic: One Product, Multiple Functions

September 6th, 2015

Belgian company BuzziSpace was established in 2007, and their range of products were an instant hit because they met an ever-increasing need to manage noise levels in open areas such as offices and lofts, and were also highly stylish.

Today, BuzziSpace products such as BuzziBooth and BuzziHood – both designed by Alain Gilles – can be found in the offices of Microsoft, Facebook and Google.

BuzziSpace also produces flexible and modular furniture for corporate and residential environments, and their latest BuzziPicNic is taking this concept to a whole new level.

Designed by Alain Gilles, BuzziPicNic is a versatile table that can function as a common eating table, a gathering point for group interactions, a temporary working space, or a workbench.

It is typically meant for use in common spaces, and its function can evolve according to the time of day and the requirements of its users. BuzziPicNic is a place to have breakfast or share coffee, a place to come and work on one’s laptop or tablet, a place to eat with others and relax at lunch time, a place to organise a quick discussion with colleagues, or even a place to celebrate over a bottle of champagne when projects have been completed…

The driving idea behind BuzziPicNic is to play with a typology that refers to pleasurable moments in life. A picnic table typically brings to mind the notion of summer and good times shared with friends. It is a friendly and informal gathering tool, and brings into the office a stress-free furniture typology that will hopefully help foster greater communication in the workplace.

BuzziPicNic features discreet but easy access flaps that provide quick and non-intrusive connectivity to a power source and the Internet. The groove in the table serves as a convenient stand for tablets and smartphones. The straight models can also be used side by side if more table space is required.

As an added dimension to the product, the ‘Split-Level’ version of BuzziPicNic enables users to work on two different levels around the same common table. Each side offers a different table height; one side is at normal chair height, while the other is at standing or high stool height. This feature offers architects new possibilities to define new interactions in a space and between people.

BuzziSpace, including the new BuzziPicNic, was a major draw at the recently held Sydney Indesign event in August. For more on that story, click here.
