SJB’s Melbourne studio has announced the appointment of two Senior Associates and the elevation of four Associates. Hayley Jaffer and Hanah Wexler join the practice as Senior Associates, while Brendan Linnane, Eloisa Schmid, Laura Marsh and Stephen Liddy have been promoted to Associate.
Jaffer brings more than 20 years of experience across multi-residential, commercial, education, health and science projects, with a focus on team leadership, client relationships and project delivery. Wexler, meanwhile, has more than a decade of experience in mixed-use and residential projects, overseeing design from feasibility through to development and delivery.
“There is a high level of responsibility at Senior Associate level,” says Fiona Coakley, Director at SJB. “With Hayley and Hanah, their breadth of experience in team leadership and project delivery, along with their genuine cultural fit, made it easy to welcome them into these roles.”

The four newly appointed Associates have developed specialist roles within SJB. Linnane brings experience in project delivery, technical coordination and stakeholder management, while Schmid focuses on feasibility and schematic design. Marsh has a background in project management and client relationships, and Liddy specialises in facade design, detailing and BIM.
“Our Associates have been part of SJB for years, and that loyalty and dedication mean a great deal to the practice,” says Coakley. “They share strong ties with fellow long-standing associates Tracy Xia and Dom Bunnag, and with the wider studio too. We know how fortunate we are to have Brendan, Eloisa, Laura and Stephen.”
The appointments follow a significant year for SJB, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in April with an event at the National Gallery of Victoria. Founding Director Michael Bialek and Director Owen Chow also announced their retirements after a collective 93 years in the Melbourne studio.
