The true value of furniture is not the space that it occupies in our rooms, it is the passionately crafted place it holds in our minds
This is the passionate belief of Walter Rauchenwald, an Austrian-born cabinetmaker, now based in Brisbane. Originally an interior designer, Walter began designing pieces of furniture for family and friends, before eventually setting up a showroom.
Walter was launched into Queensland’s public eye following the selection of two of his products – ‘Nancy’s Chest’ and ‘Please Don’t Sit On Me Stool’ – into the inaugural Queensland New Design exhibition last year.
He continues to both make new furniture pieces, and work on interior design projects from home, which have enabled him to spend quality time on his most recent project, his new born baby boy, Jayden.
We will certainly be keeping an eye out for his latest works.
