One of the most poignant shifts brought on by the global pandemic has been the sudden blurring of workplace boundaries – both between commercial and residential typologies, traditionally considered separate, and between the spaces within them. And as the post-pandemic world opened back up and started moving again, so did the modern workplace – enriching its conventionally stationary tapestry with the notion of decentralised and instantaneous mobility.
The ability to work from anywhere has become more critical than ever before, creating an increased need for purposeful, flexible and hard-working fit-outs that shed layers of intricate complexities in favour of empowering portability and intuitive simplicity.
Herman Miller’s latest personal work table, Passport, encapsulates the very essence of this unrestrained ease. Stripping back the idea of a traditional height-adjustable table, Passport reveals an untethered, single-column and clutter-defying design that accommodates all the necessary workplace essentials – and can turn any space into a workstation in an instant.
With a 686mm W x 508mm D table surface, the larger size is just big enough to fit a laptop, a notebook and a cup of tea, while the more petite surface of the smaller table will be perfect for a more minimalist set-up. With such a humble footprint, the Passport’s signature detached, lightweight body can be instantly moved, shifted, pulled up or away – either individually or to form a cluster of tables for a collaborative assignment or a brain-storming session.
The design is powered by an intuitive pneumatic lift, with the inconspicuous lever neatly positioned on one of the desk’s shorter sides. The simple mechanism can instantly take the larger table from 688mm to 1146mm, transforming the workspace from sitting to standing in a matter of seconds.
The more compact table style boasts a smaller range that caters to a plethora of sitting positions, and enables the user to make precise, small tweaks to the height. Both volumes were designed to provide ultimate comfort at any height and work with a broad selection of seats – whether it’s a performance chair, a simple stool or a sofa in a breakout area.
The perfectly elemental functionality of this inconspicuous piece is elevated by a selection of accessories, cleverly designed not to overbear the table’s petite frame. Passport can be furnished with a privacy screen, a practical bag hook as well as decorated with a new plywood edge Herman Miller is launching alongside the new product release. Plus the larger size is also available with a choice of casters or glides.
