Space hosted an intimate lunch for Australian designers with special guest Patricia Urquiola at the Space showroom in Melbourne, as part of Space Furniture’s 20th birthday celebrations.
January 7th, 2014
Marking two decades this year, it’s fitting that Space is celebrating with a number of key design events that underpin a strong commitment to design and an understanding of the importance of cross-cultural exchange between Australia and its international design partners. Joined by designers including Adam Goodrum, Helen Kontouris, Christina Waterson, Daniel To and Emma Aiston, Patricia led a relaxed get together that gave local designers an opportunity to discuss their work and ideas.Other projects developed by Space to foster international connections for local designers include the second round of the Space Design Residency Programme that launched this year for 2014.
Following the success of the inaugural Space Residency held in 2010, Space has confirmed a partnership with Moooi that will see an Australian designer spend two months at the Moooi headquarters in Breda and Amsterdam, The Netherlands, under the guidance of Marcel Wanders, founder, art director and designer and Casper Vissers, founder and CEO.
Both Wanders and Vissers are well known around the world for their commitment to nurturing young designers, which includes hosting the Frame Moooi Awards annually. Their ultimate aim for this residency is to see the winning product become part of Moooi’s collection, offering an incredible opportunity. With over 20 applications to the Moooi + Space Design Residency 2014, the shortlist will soon be announced and Moooi’s Casper Visser will be in Australia in February to interview finalists and announce the successful applicant. It’s only a matter of time before we see some of the results of these new friendships.
