September 19th, 2016
Hi Kok Seng, can you tell us about your new role at Space Matrix Singapore? What are you hoping to bring to the table?
In my role as Director of Projects for Space Matrix, I will be responsible for the performance of our project management team, the delivery of all construction works and our key client and vendor relationships. I will be working closely with our Business Development, Design and Procurement teams to service our clients better. With my understanding of the construction industry, as well as having been on the other side of the table as a client representative when I was a Project Manager Consultant, I hope to be able to contribute to the organisation’s strategic planning by providing a different perspective.
What did you do prior to joining Space Matrix?
Before joining Space Matrix, I was the Director of Corporate Fitouts at Cushman & Wakefield, where I was responsible for leading a team of 13 project managers. During my tenure, I built up a skilled team of project managers that delivered cutting-edge projects for various multinational corporations including Ernst & Young, Unilever, Autodesk, HSBC, and Sanofi. Before Cushman & Wakefield, I worked at Jones Lang Lasalle and before that, I was with Cathay Decoration.
How will your previous experience inform this new position?
Riding on my previous project management consultancy experience, I will help to improve our documentation management and processes, and service delivery to clients. The main aim is to elevate the quality of our project management delivery to a much higher standard where we can differentiate ourselves from other design and build firms.
What are some of your new projects at Space Matrix?
Since joining, I’ve had the opportunity to work on projects such as Symantec, Coca-Cola, Amadeus, Gates Engineering & Services, and Roche. We have lots of other great projects in the pipeline that we can’t name just yet.
We will be looking forward to those. What are your views on the changes in the demands and desires of workplace design in Singapore over the years?
Clients today are more progressive than ever and they are making decisions based on the needs of their employees. They are open to changing their working styles and adapting their offices to be more collaborative, agile, mobile or activity based. They want to ensure that their workforce is engaged and highly productive.
