HBO+EMTB’s major mixed-use development for Perth to include 30,000sqm of commercial space and 300 room hotel
February 6th, 2013
The winning design unveiled by the Western Australian Government for a new Starwood Hotels and Resorts / BGC development has been awarded to multidisciplinary design firm HBO+EMTB.
Formerly the site of the Perth Chest Clinic and WA Emergency Services House, the new proposal includes a 300 room luxury hotel and 30,000sqm commercial office tower.
Addressing key heritage considerations, the design for the Hay Street location was applauded for its sensitive and adaptive reuse of an existing site.
Creating a “quality public realm” between the two structures, HBO+EMTB Managing Director cites the development as
“an opportunity to accommodate a hotel and mixed use program in a unique urban context.”
With the mining industry fuelling much growth and significant construction in the region, Perth’s demand for new standards in luxury accommodation and increased availability of commercial plates, sees project such as this rapidly being greenlit.
