Next year’s Biennale is Australia’s time to shine
November 8th, 2007
The Australian pavilion is certain to make a splash at next year’s ‘11th Venice International Architecture Biennale’.
Neil Durbach, Kerstin Thompson, Wendy Lewin, Vince Frost and Gary Warner are the creative team behind the 2008 pavilion, which will highlight the breadth and depth of Australia’s architectural practice.
Durbach says their intent is to “forcefully and joyfully” express a sense of Australia as an “abundantly creative laboratory. We want to show both our rich and sophisticated history and our buoyant potential,” says Durbach.
The two-level pavilion’s upper floor will encompass a kaleidoscope of images showcasing Australia’s diverse history while highlighting its significant structures.
Filling the lower gallery will be an army of models depicting projects proposed by 150 practices.
