Brisbane-based artist Christina Waterson brings to her work a unique perspective as a Queenslander and as an architect. Her art explores strong shapes and intricate structures in small to large-scale pieces.
Christina will next week open her new solo show at the exciting pin-up architecture and design project space in Collingwood. The exhibition, titled Trace, “maps and connects the underlying conceptual ideas” of Christina’s practice, informed by her recent Winston Churchill Fellowship research project.
An evolution of her previous works in timber, metal and acrylic, Trace presents works in ’softer’ materials such as rubber, leather and felt, produced using artisan techniques, from leatherwork and sewing, to beading and macramé.

To date, Christina’s works have focussed on sharp lines and geometries, however this latest portfolio of work takes on softer forms of tactile curves and arabesques. “The new collection embodies a 3-dimensional ’trace’, sketch or echo of past trajectories,” Waterson explains.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 15 March 2012 from 6–9pm at the pin-up project space in Collingwood.
