As the only Australian award recipient, Fulton Trotter Architects’ Noosa Flexible Learning Centre project was announced the Project of Distinction: New Construction winner as part of the 2015 Association for Learning Environments (formerly CEFPI) Annual Conference and Expo in San Diego in November.

Fulton Trotter Architects’ Director, Mark Trotter, said the learning centre has successfully created an alternative learning environment for disengaged and disadvantaged youth.

The $3.5 million centre “is an asset to both the social and environmental fabric of the Sunshine Coast community,” says Mark. “The alternative nature of the Flexible Learning Centre has been a wonderful opportunity to push the boundaries of the conventional notion of ‘school’ and explore new educational design possibilities at their most fundamental level. This path has forced us to cast aside traditional, pre-conceived notions and start from scratch.”

Noosa Flexible Learning Centre has received several industry awards including an Australian Institute of Architects 2015 Sunshine Coast Regional Commendation and the Stormwater Queensland 2014 Award for Excellence in Integrated Stormwater.
