Sydney Living Museums has launched a competition to redesign a red brick home at 27 Smith Street in Sydney – to transform the past into the future.

From the Hyde Park Barracks and Californian bungalows of the 1920s to the landmark UTS Business School building, the red brick house is a truly iconic Australian icon. Bricks have been fundamental as to how Sydney’s sense of architecture has developed, and it’s time to look to future of for this iconic material

27 Smith Street in Sydney City is an average suburban block awaiting a home. Sydney Living Museum’s newly launched competition calls on architects and designers to map out the home of tomorrow on the space. The challenge is to make the brick the new black.

Individuals and teams are being invited to enter under one of two categories: professional or student, and with Prize pool of $10,000, the 27 Smith Street competition is sure to bring out the best in the business, as well some of the promising up and coming architectural minds Sydney has to offer.

This competition closes on Friday 26 February 2016 at 5pm, and shortlisted entrants will have to hold their breath till notification on Friday 18 March 2016. The ultimate winners of the competition will be notified by Friday 8 April 2016.
