As Melbourne’s Crown Casino and entertainment complex continues its (seemingly perpetual) revamp, a brand new venue by Mim Design is turning heads

Responsible for the fit-out at the adjacent “Cotta” restaurant, the team at Mim Design called on a rich collection of suppliers to achieve a hospitality interior that is equally rich in character.

Decorative lighting from Melbourne’s artisan lighting designer Volker Haug as well as Roll & Hill feature in bathrooms and hang aloft from floating beams in the main dining room. Custom carpets from Brinton’s lie underfoot alongside herringbone timber flooring and contrasting use of marble and tiling from Apex Stone.

An immense glazed façade gently divorces Jimbo&Rex’s warm interior from the cooler, retail focussed atmosphere of the Crown Complex outside whilst elegantly framing the eatery to passers-by.

Imbuing the space with a heightened sense of character are commissioned pieces from Australian artist Brett Coelho and Cloth’s Julie Patterson.

Led by Principal Miriam Fanning, the South Yarra studio has applied a cohesive aesthetic across the creative process delivering a consistent and wholly considered experience from venue name, to interiors to all branding and graphics resulting a “strong, layered and individual interior.”
