8bit, designed Architects Eat Interior Design & Stylist, Lachlan Cooper is a new burger bar on the corner of Swanston Street and Little Bourke Street.

With a lick of retro pop culture, the design takes inspiration from 80s video games. The wallpaper on the exterior carries an iconic video game-like 8bit burger symbol, while the interior is simple with bursts of colour offering the choice of perching yourself along the counter on a colourful stool, sitting at a table or lounging in a comfortable booth.

Architects Eat Interior Design & Stylist, Lachlan Cooper explains that his design choices were influenced by Melbourne’s urban landscape and Memphis-inspired gaming culture.

“When developing 8bit’s second store in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, we wanted to bring to life the bold, sprite-based graphics and colours from the original Footscray store and set it apart from the visual clutter of Swanston Street,” says Cooper.

“When we discovered that the 8-bit era began around the same time the Memphis Group was formed (perhaps coincidentally), we knew that these two aesthetics would be a perfect match. Our design intent was to bring these bold colours, patterns and heavy geometric forms into the prominent city corner to create a Memphis-inspired gaming haven for all burger-lovers.”
