You may think it is simply a blind in a pelmet, but Vertilux begs to differ. We take a look at its ground-breaking product, the EcoPelmet.

The EcoPelmet™ System is the newest development in glazing and blind technology. Working to alleviate the pressure put on a building’s air-conditioning system, EcoPelmet™ is guaranteed to reduce energy output and running costs.

Through testing, Vertilux found that the heated trapped air between a building’s perimeter glazing and the integral roller blinds causes the air-conditioning system to work overtime – a needlessly inefficient process. But the EcoPelmet™ uses the building’s concealed ceiling space as a return air plenum, meaning that the trapped heat is aspirated into the ceiling space and then removed by the building’s return air system.

Working in combination with an integral Vertilux roller blind system, the system reduces solar heat gain. This translates to a lower energy consumption of air supply fans in the building’s air-conditioning system.

Reducing the demands made upon a building’s air-conditioning system (meaning lower specifications and running costs), the EcoPelmet™ System enables the roller blind and air-conditioning systems to work as one, which the company views as an “important advancement in glazing and blind technology.”

As the Australian building standards continue to become more stringent, particularly with energy ratings, it’s even more important for smart products to hit the market that can help in reducing energy consumption and ongoing running costs. The EcoPelmet™ System is the perfect solution.
