The micro hotel trend, which has taken the hotel industry globally by storm, is all set to make a thunderous debut in Adelaide.

Recently, leading developer, Hines Property received an approval to build Adelaide’s first micro-hotel featuring high-quality, yet compact rooms. The ‘skinny micro hotel,’ which is being developed on the site of an existing car park on Adelaide’s North Terrace is being pegged as ideal for short-stay visitors and young tourists. According to James Hines, Managing Director of Hines Property, “The micro hotel will fill a gap in the Adelaide market for travellers who want stylish yet minimalist accommodation. The trend is booming in cities across the globe, so we’re bringing the concept to Adelaide, which is really exciting.”

Leading architecture firm Woods Bagot has designed Hines’ $55 million hotel. The 15-storey building is made up of 253 compact rooms, with sizes ranging from 13-square-metres to 28-square-metres. Other amenities include a gym, ground floor lobby, lounge and bar.

Woods Bagot associate principal and design leader Alex Hall explains that the hotel aligns with the new population of creative thinkers being attracted to Adelaide’s ‘entrepreneurial ecosystem’, Lot Fourteen, located across the road. “Rational design thinking has allowed us to transform a under-utilised car park into a smart, tasteful and affordable hotel that appeals to innovators and doesn’t compromise on quality,” says Hall.

Construction is likely to commence next year, ahead of the hotel’s opening in 2021.
