A program of citywide design events under the umbrella theme, ‘Tell us a story’, promises to prove that design is for everyone.

Among the 70-odd events lies an event to suit all design lovers – from industrial design fans to arts and crafts lovers, all the way through to fashion and architecture aficionados.

The Powerhouse Museum will be the epicentre of the activities, hosting sartorially-focussed exhibitions as ‘Creating the look: Benini and fashion photography’ and ‘Frock Stars’ – a behind-the-scenes look at Rosemount Fashion Week.

Two design markets Young Blood: designers market and designboom mart, will showcase the talents of emerging designers on the 13 August.

In perfect keeping with the storytelling theme, the second edition of the Habitus Conversation Series will bring the magazine content to life on Wednesday 11 August (buy tickets here).

Textile studio Sixhands, featured in Habitus issue 2 will be discussing their inspirations and design processes at the Hill Street Precinct.

6 August sees a cook-off of other sorts – Iron Designer – where designers take to the stage with one key ingredient, materials and 20 minutes to design a concept or product.

Don’t miss Designer Sushi, organised by Metalab and cloth, which invites designers from all disciplines to participate in creating an original work from the contents of a box.

The resulting works will be displayed at Metalab throughout August.

We’ll be covering Sydney Design over the next 2 weeks, so tune in for the low down on Indesignlive.
