April 19th, 2022
The legacy of iconic Australian designer, Robert Foster of F!NK, continues to live on with the announcement of an award to celebrate contemporary metalwork.
Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre established the inaugural award to celebrate the outstanding work of contemporary metalwork by designers and craftspeople. Open to practitioners both emerging and established, its focus will hone in on innovation and contemporary craft abilities.
The award is set to launch on Thursday, 28 April at a VIP event, with winners’ works shown as a part of the DESIGN Canberra festival in November 2022.
“We are privileged to work with F!NK + Co to launch this significant prize, says Jodie Cunningham, CEO and artistic director at Craft ACT. “It is an honour to acknowledge the important contribution the late Robert Foster made to contemporary design and metalwork in Australia.”
Ten artists, including a minimum of three emerging artists, will be selected by a panel of esteemed judges; Ewan McEoin, National Gallery Of Victoria; Brian Parkes, Jam Factory; and Rohan Nicols, University Of Tasmania.
The artist’s work will be exhibited at Craft ACT during the DESIGN Canberra festival. Three artists will be chosen from the finalists and receive cash prizes: The Major award, the Emerging Artist award, and the Tall Foundation acquisition award.
The Robert Foster F!NK National Metal Prize is open to Australian-based metal working artists who create hollow-ware, flatware, lighting, small scale sculpture and objects.
The call-out opens Thursday 28 April and closes Monday 28 June.
