What better way to spend a Sunday, than plundering a treasure trove of design talent?
Last Sunday’s Melbourne Design Market was an exciting mix of man, woman, child, (even the occasional dog!), and designers galore.
Hungry market-goers had a smorgasbord of stallholders to choose from including Peter McLisky, popular for his silhouetted steel sculptures, in particular ‘Rabbit’ and ‘Running Men’.
Also back was Zaishu with an array of fresh designs gracing their flat-pack wooden stools. Melbourne-based graphic design studio housemouse were also present, selling their award-winning range of graphically-designed ‘Wrapped’ paper range.
New to the market was This Is by Bonnie So, featuring the sleekly-curved ‘This is a Trivet’, made from Corian material. So has also adapted these into striking wearable pieces.
Putting the style into sustainable design was Elle Mücke whose holistic approach to fashion-making and business has culminated in an exquisite range of clothing.
The Melbourne Design Market is a very special event, bringing together a group of carefully selected designers. In a way, it takes the ‘flea’ out of market and replaces it with queen bee. And while it may only happen twice a year, we have it on good information that some of the market’s star stallholders will make a comeback before the year is out.
