On the Table

Franco Crea’s latest – the Mila Collection – offers Australia a thoughtful meditation on the place of design in our lives.

Consider The Table. There is perhaps no other element of furniture that has been responsible for so much in the history of design. Actually, no: of history, fullstop. When we think about The Table, we are thinking about just how much of our lives we bring to it. It’s a sacred place, a celebration place, a momentous place, a labouring place, a recreation place – the site of civility, and in many ways also the site of civilisation.

As the locus of our families, our work and our friendships, The Table is truly one of the most powerful and precious examples of design we have in our lives. Understanding the importance The Table holds for us, Franco Crea’s latest offering – the Mila Table – harnesses The Table’s diverse applications on the spectrum of reservedly formal to the ultra-casual.

“The Mila is a statement piece”, says Crea, “an object around which I wanted colleagues, family and friends to feel comfortable gathering around”. In American Oak and Walnut, the Mila Table defines an aesthetic language of strong, precise and adaptable vital lines that speak so much to our necessity for dynamism and strength.

As part of the Mila Collection that also includes the Mila Chair and Stool (finished, likewise, in American Oak and Walnut, and with upholstery options in leathers and wools coupled with copper or brass), Franco Crea’s understated visual grammar of simplicity and vigour allows the range to remain flexible and sensitive to its environment.

Melbourne Indesign 2016 is proud to present Franco Crea’s launch of the Mila Chair and Stool, August 12-13.
