How EcoSoft flooring is saving the ocean one project at a time

To date, over 700,000 discarded PET plastic bottles have been removed from landfill and the oceans, repurposed into gorgeous, functional carpet tiles. With the help of designers, specifiers, builders and consumers, the team at Carpets Inter is changing the world in their goal to recycle one billion bottles by 2025.
With the global spotlight firmly planted on issues of climate change and the waste crisis the role of design and architecture becomes paramount. Designing with a goal to reduce overall impact on the environment through the implementing of sustainable design practices and specifying eco-friendly solutions are small choices that make big changes.
Re-engineered from millions of discarded drinking water bottles, EcoSoft is made from 80 per cent post-consumer materials, plus five per cent post-industrial recycled PET. By choosing EcoSoft, designers and construction professionals can build a better future by helping break the cycle of waste production, while still delivering a project of high quality performance and aesthetics
Recently, the National Gallery of Victoria utilised custom EcoSoft Modular Ax carpet tiles for its Great Hall. Not only does is the result a stylish and sound insulating floor, the installation of the carpet took 50,064 recycled PET bottles out of landfills and oceans.
Designed by A1 Office, the VISY Essendon Fields office is a sustainable facility that also utilises EcoSoft, here they’ve used plank carpet tiles from the Breaking Waves and Flatlands range, containing 54,500 recycled plastic bottles.
Using EcoSoft carpet tiles containing 239,500 recycled PET bottles, Melbourne’s CubeOne, designed by Watson Young Architects, is another significant achievement. On top of delivering elevated environmental outcomes, the EcoSoft Breaking Ground carpet tile range was selected due to its aesthetic consistency with the overall building design, as well as for its performance and functionality benefits.
This small selection of projects highlights how Carpets Inter is more than just a manufacturer but rather a key piece in building a sustainable, healthy future for the planet.
