April marks the release of the Autumn Issue #45, and the announcement of DQ’s annual Top Ten forces and faces in design.

Entitled Tomorrow Top Ten, this special feature reveals 10 talented creatives whose stories are bound by the threads of shared experience, re-activation of shared spaces, and the cultivation of a living design culture within our communities.

Complementing this is DQ’s annual graduate design showcase, selecting 10 of the most promising emerging designers entering the industry. Their work as a whole carries an adventurous spirit, refined by an impressive level of resolution.

Each issue DQ brings you key interviews with designers from across the globe, peeling back the layers of their practices to reveal the nuts and bolts of their personality, design process and ethos.

Here we introduce you to lighting designer and engineer Jake Dyson, of the famed Dyson family. He speaks on the evolution of his studio and business and the conceptual thinking behind his ground-breaking LED lights.

Also featured is South African designer Gregor Jenkin, who made a lasting impression at the Design Miami fair with his Migrant/Migrate collection of pieces; and Marc Newson who was in Sydney for the blockbuster New Year’s Eve fireworks show.

Travelling the globe to catch all the major design events, we stop in at the Business of Design Week where we chat with the mysterious and wonderful Japanese designer known as Nosigner; as well as Manfred Dorn of the renowned German-based design studio Phoenix Design.

Just as uplifting is our visit to the BMW Guggenheim Lab, a travelling thinktank that has set its travel course for New York, Berlin (where it’s currently located), and Mumbai.

Engaging with community at street level, the BMW Guggenheim Lab tackles topics surrounding urbanity and the built environment. “It’s not about the Lab itself. It’s the quality of the conversations happening here that really matters,” says assistant curator Maria Nicanor.
