Italian bathware brand Teuco has racked up a clutch of awards in the first half of 2014 and maintained its elegant, luxurious catalogue with new launches. We catch up with Australian distributor Delsa to hear about how the brand has faired in the local market.

A little over a year since Delsa landed on Australian shores, the company has made promising inroads with architects, developers and specifiers. Whilst Delsa carries an assortment of brands, their showpiece is Italian bath ware manufacturer Teuco, which they distribute exclusively in the domestic market.

Specified in a number of projects ranging from high-end developments to private residences, the brand has made a splash in Australian bathrooms, wading in to an already competitive sector, but offering a point of difference.

Simone Salvato and Tony Delpopolo who run the company are adamant about the brand’s values: 100% made in Italy (even down to the internal mechanisms of the tapware), Teuco have a secret formula for the Duralite material, jealously protected and shared only with the ‘made men’ of the Teuco family. Thanks to the rigour of its design, innovation and manufacture, Teuco has been at the cutting edge of bathware for over 40 years, first breaking into fame when the MoMa exhibited the Doccia Tonda (round shower – pictured below) made of coloured methacrylate, Teuco’s most representative symbol of Italian style applied to design and technology.

Since then the brand has won a slew of design awards, most recently with a Red Dot ‘Best of the Best’ Award and Muuz International Award for the Accademia Pop bath tub (pictured top), and a special mention for the Hydroline (below) as best technological innovation in the first edition of the Abitare il Bagno Best Product Award at this year’s Salone del Bagno.

Whilst confident the brand would resonate with the Australian market, Delsa have been impressed with the uptake for the top-tier products, especially bath tubs. Its active engagement with the architecture, design and property development industries and expansion of their distribution network suggests it is set to continue to succeed – we may be swimming in Teuco bathtubs before we know it.
