A heritage home on Charles Street in Richmond, Victoria has been given a new lease on life that sees a marriage of old world charm and contemporary design and technology.
Designed by DX Architects, the double-fronted heritage Victorian dwelling on Charles Street is alive like never before. Retaining the original architectural design retains enhances the heritage dwelling, while a contemporary double-storey addition takes the home to another level.
Cleverly placed skylights invite natural light to flood the interior of the space, with its white walls and exposed grey brick feature fireplace. This open space is complemented by Tongue n Groove European oak timber flooring in the home, matching perfectly with the walls and fireplace. The innovative window design and skylights also maximise the view to the outside and help convey warmth with the natural sunlight.
The connection to the outside goes beyond the views, with this Charles Street interior flowing seamlessly to the outdoor entertaining spaces. The positioning of feature pendant and wall lights define the various functions of the flexible open plan living room.
Tongue n Groove engineered solid European oak floorboards in the Alpacca colour, Eterno classic wire-brushed finish and Grande format feature throughout the interior and continue up the staircase. With its warm cream tones, accents of grey and deeply wire-brushed grain, Alpacca is perfect for those who are after a slightly weathered look.
For this Charles Street home, Tongue n Groove boards were an obvious pick. Tounge n Groove floors are unique; unlike most engineered timbers that are made of layers of ply under a timber facade, Tongue n Groove products are comprised of 3 layers of solid European oak.
The home is a gentle and inviting design, marrying old architecture with modern design – finished with the care and detail both DX and Tongue n Groove are known for.
