The Casalino chair designed by Alexander Begge, is the new retro classic range from UCI.

Casalino is a chair with a great story. It was designed and manufactured in the 1970’s by Casala, however as style and trends changed in the 1980’s and 1990’s, the chair went out of fashion, sales dropped and manufacturing ended.

Retro classics have once again become popular. Amazingly, in 2007, the original moulds for Casalino were discovered in Turkey and shipped back to Casala to be used again in the manufacturing of these originals. Yes, that’s right. Casalino is not a copy or an imitation. It is the original chair from 1971. And still as beautiful as it ever was. Its qualities of those days meet today’s requirements: Casalino is elegant and robust at the same time.

UCI actually uncovered an original 70’s Casalino not long after the relaunch of the chair, in an op shop along a trendy local street in North Melbourne. It is now on display in their Melbourne showroom.

The designer, Alexander Begge – born 1941, designed no more than one furniture line: Casalino, with a cloud of fog as his inspiration.

Casalino looks great everywhere, at home and in the garden, at the office and on the patio. Stackable and easy to clean. Colourfast and antistatic. Casalino is available as a cantilever chair with arms, as a chair without arms or as a stool. The padded seat is optional. The Casalino tables match with all these products.
