USYD Has An Open Studio For Design Professionals To Continue Their Education

The University of Sydney continues to offer education well after one’s degree with an ongoing series of masterclasses exposing and exploring design issues in the contemporary built environment.

The masterclasses are purpose-designed to be flexible yet efficient touchpoints keeping the industry informed and at the forefront of emerging technologies and forthcoming research. The content is developed by industry and disciplinary experts alike and draws from the school’s post-graduate offering.
The latest in the Professional Development Offering is a masterclass entitled Robotics in Architecture and Construction. It is aimed at professionals working in the architecture or construction industry that are seeking an introduction or overview of the use of robotics in the field. Attendees will learn the theoretical background of robotics in architecture and construction and develop a clear understanding of the opportunities and constraints that come as a result.
This CPD course provides an entry level insight into how an industrial robot can be integrated into the design, workflow and assembly stages of a project. Despite the fact that access and use of industrial robots has been around many decades – particularly so in the automotive industry – it is only recently that the architecture and construction industry has began to capitalise on the increased capabilities available through the use of these extremely adaptable tools. For example, the ability of robots to complete tasks that are too complex in nature for human hands, or too time consuming to be worthwhile.
As the construction industry inches slowly towards automation, this CPD course ensures professionals – or interested students – maintain or enhance their knowledge of the use of robotics in architecture and construction through the understanding of basic technological principles, workflow, troubleshooting, and final output.
