Turning Tables, Turning Heads: Cattelan Italia brings its A-game to the Salone del Mobile

Though they have ventured into many realms of furnishings, they remain most praised for their range of premium tabletops. “We’re a company oriented to the future and we use technology in order to guarantee quality results to our customers”, stated Paolo Cattelan, who’s currently leading this prolific workshop of ideas and creativity, where history gives space to the future.
Cattelan wowed the design world at this year’s Salon Internationale del Mobile, exploring the potential of new finishes and how never-before seen finishes perform when applied to tabletops.
There have been two new finishes created to enhance the ceramic Marmi stone range: Makalu, an exclusive-to-Cattelan veneer which reproduces sophisticated marble textures, and Emperador, the timeless marble with warm hazelnut veining.
The powerfully-built bases of DRAGON Keramik and Premium come in titanium, graphite or black painted embossed steel. In the Premium version, a sophisticated wooden frame with a thickness of just 5/6cm enhances the aesthetics of the tops, embracing them in a frame of pure beauty.
A third new innovation for glass tops is CrystalArt, a distinctive technique for printing on glass that maintains extreme shine and a sophisticated artistic/decorative effect. This has enabled a 12mm extra-clear bevelled glass top to tell a story made up of exclusive shades and exciting nuances.
DRAGON CrystalArt is a table with base in titanium, graphite or black painted embossed steel and top in 12 mm extra-clear bevelled glass with decorative art print. The different nuances and shades give each piece a unique, customised flavour.
Cattelan also pays tribute to the timeless, simple style of wood. ATLANTIS Wood employs a slender steel base supports the top, which can be chosen from 3 versions: with oblique edges in Canaletto walnut, Heritage oak or natural oak; with irregular edges in solid Canaletto walnut, burned oak or natural oak; barrel top with bevelled edges in Canaletto walnut or burned oak. Atlantis Wood can be ordered in special sizes for custom projects.
DRAGON Wood offers a choice of no fewer than 4 versions of their tabletop: with oblique edges in Canaletto walnut, Heritage oak or natural oak (the thicknesses vary, depending on the size); with irregular edges in solid Canaletto walnut, burned oak or natural oak; with barrel top with bevelled edges in Canaletto walnut or burned oak; top in Canaletto oak with rounded lower profile and painted black or matt black open-pore dyed elm with rounded lower profile painted in Brushed Bronze, with a painted steel base. As with ATLANTIS wood, special sizes are available on request for DRAGON Wood.
And finally, last but not least, Marathon is a beautiful tribute to the effects that can be created by the tasteful combination of glass and wood. Designed by Andrew Lucatello, described as “pure architecture in the living room” it presents an eye-catching boomerang base in solid Canaletto walnut, burned oak stained ash or with a black open-pore lacquered effect supported by painted steel bars. The kaleidoscope of reflections of the glass top (transparent, extra-clear and/or with a 15 mm bevelled edge) is a warm invitation to conviviality that Italian homes are famous for.
