Advanced surface solutions for healthcare: Staron Solid Surfaces

Architecture and design have the potential to create an uplifting healthcare environment to positively impact patient health and psychological wellbeing. Think bright rooms, natural daylight, indoor greenery and plenty of outdoor views. The newly designed building of the Frankston Private Hospital, Victoria, which is a contemporary state-of-the-art facility offers a similar experience to its inhabitants. Designed by Silver Thomas Hanley, the space also relies on a careful selection of materials to reflect the overall quality and standard of design.

For instance, the design team has worked with Staron® Solid Surfaces by Austaron Surfaces to clad the cabinetry of the nurse stations, the hospital reception as well as the customer service desk. Decked in colour Bright White, the Staron surface extends from the front of the nurse’s station to the top counter area and down to the desk space on the other side. Staron Mosaic Nimbus, on the other hand, adds appeal to the service countertop of another nurse station as well as the hospital reception.

What’s interesting about the surface material is that it has been thermoformed to create curves that wrap softly around the corners of the station. Staron is also hygienic, non-porous smooth and monolithic, making it a great fit within healthcare spaces. What’s more, without any open joints, dirt-trapping crevices are practically non-existent.

As a natural and pure mineral derived from bauxite ore and blended with an advanced pure acrylic resin, Staron ensures a non-toxic surface for work. Staron has also introduced the new Staron Evermoin® – an antimicrobial solid surface, that is the perfect surface solution for healthcare environments due to its anti-bacterial inclusion. Standard Staron® suppresses fungal and bacterial growth, while Staron Evermoin® actively kills bacteria.

Within the healthcare environment, Staron can also be applied to create fully integrated dentistry bowls, baby baths, sinks, vanities, toilet partitions, wall surfaces and even food preparation kitchenettes with no open joints.
