For those with creative vision and an astute eye, inspiration can be found anywhere. In the case of Lamitak’s head of Product and Design Development, Jansen Tan, the idea for the company’s Rialto Pine laminates are derived from the weathered timber mooring posts in Venice.
Rialto Pine is a somewhat surreal design that underscores the harsh effects of water on timber, complete with deep grooves, knots and staining. Playing up the look and feel of wood fibres but leaving the splinters aside, Rialto Pine matches visual drama with textural intensity to capture the power of natural effects.
Many of Jansen’s designs are based on real materials he encounters during his travels in Europe. He explains, “I take photos of things that catch my eye, from back alleys to somebody’s doorbell. To me, they’re all ideas for new designs.”
