Metallic magnificence revealed at Milan

This is the genesis of Estratto, a sophisticated range of mono-material coffee tables and consoles representing an alchemical fusion of material and design imagination.  The range was first revealed to the world at Salone del Mobile. Milano 2026 in April, as part of the #PedraliGentleHabitat installation.

The Estratto pieces shone in scenarios representing scenes ranging from casual, relaxed sophistication to formal luxury, mirroring the potential of the range for curating spaces amidst gardens or on patios, or within the walls of luxury homes, hospitality venues and other indoor places.

Formafantasma studio was founded by designers Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin. They share a vision with Pedrali that is expressed through an approach centred on reducing complexity without compromising quality.

The clean and conscious design language the studio defined for Estratto aligns with Pedrali’s own environmentally-conscious and mindful approach to the making process.

This translated into the range, which has been made entirely from aluminium, a material with genuine potential for circularity. The tables and consoles are created with extruded aluminium, with a lightweight design that features hollow cores, refining the quality of material to a minimum, while expressive an expansive eye for detailing and refined aesthetics.

The physicality of aluminium extrusion is an exemplar of a continuous and unending process, and it caught the imagination of the designers.

The idea behind the project “stemmed from a reflection on the potential of extrusion as an industrial technology,” the designers explain.

“We were interested in working on a process rather than a form, exploring how a single manufacturing gesture could generate a variety of products.”

The material and its production also anchor Estratto into Pedrali’s own story. Aluminium extrusion is a fabrication process that has roots in the industrial district where Pedrali is based. This localisation of supply networks is another layer in the sustainability story of the range, with aluminium also being a recycled and recyclable material, durable and resistant to the elements. This ensures a long lifespan for each meticulously created piece, allowing them to become part of inter-generational stories and places.

There is a striking level of avant-garde flair in the appearance of each element of an Estratto piece. The base of the tables and consoles is composed of three concave aluminium extrusions that, when joined together, ensure structural stability while leaving the internal cavity empty, creating an elegant interplay of solids and voids.

The eye is further pleased by the smooth joint between the elements of the bases, which generates a visual rhythm that highlights the transition between surfaces.

The nature of the concave shape of the base is to modulate and reflect ambient light, while also giving a sense of organic softness to the metal.

The extruded aluminium lends itself to singular bases for small round and square coffee tables, or bases in duo form for larger rectangular coffee tables and consoles. In the iterations with edges  of the table tops that fold slightly downwards, it creates a continuous bend that defines the perimeter and introduces a distinctive detail.

The final element in the metamorphosis of metal into fine furnishing is the range of glossy lacquered or anodised finishes Pedrali offers, which further transform an industrial material into a decorative presence.

The name of the collection, Estratto, itself elevates the material’s fabrication process.

As the designers explain, “the name refers both to extrusion as a technical process and to the idea of extracting possibilities from a single generating element. Each piece is literally an extract of a continuous profile, but it is also the extraction of a specific function from a broader system.”
