How Ortho became a modern tapware icon

When Phoenix Tapware launched the Ortho range, the industry saw a rare combination of tradition, extraordinary design and optimum functionality coming together. In short, this was a launch of a modern icon

In 2014 and 2017, Phoenix Tapware claimed recognition at the iF Design Award and the German reddot design award, respectively, for its Ortho Collection. Upon examining the features of Ortho, it’s easy to see why its modern yet stylishly minimalist design, as well its efficient energy-saving features, have marked it out as a revolutionary addition to contemporary washroom design.

The Collection embraces its role as a statement-maker in tapware, using an approach of classic, geometric shapes and simple, professional finishes. The colour options available are chrome or matte brushed nickel, with a white or black mixer ring to suit all aesthetics. Constructed from brass, Ortho, is machined to precise tolerances and offers a lifetime of durability – backed up with a Lifetime Cartridge Warranty.

The Ortho Collection is not iconic in its striking appearance alone. Its focal point, the central circular dial, brings new levels of innovation and seamless operation to the table – or rather, sink. Employing European progressive cartridge technology, the flow of cold water is steadily increased as the client turns the intuitive central dial, which heats up as the dial is turned past 90 degrees and the hot and cold flows are mixed. This helps greatly reduce the energy normally used by other tapware to supply hot water using conventional mixing engineering. This mechanism, interestingly, also inspired the name of the product – “ortho” meaning “right-angled” – and was also conceptualised to fit in with the grid lines of tiling in most modern bathroom interiors.

The basin outlets also come with a 5 Star WELS rating. The set is also adaptable to a bath setting, coming with a free flow aerator which increases the flow speed for convenience in filling the tub.
