Nami: Flat-pack, reimagined

Handcrafted in NSW from sustainably certified local timber, Nami is a tribute to the raw and honest simplicity of wood, whose seamless flow makes an unequivocal reference to the Japanese word for “wave”, from which the collection takes its name.

Comprising a comprehensive selection of refined pieces that range from a sofa, an armchair and an ottoman to a selection of tables and a bed, the organic silhouettes of the collection are reassuringly anchored by the robust profile of solid wood. This stoic demeanour is artfully elevated by the directional grain detailing – achieved through the precision of the craftspeople behind the collection – and set in motion by its signature flow which sees adjoining components flawlessly connect with one another.

This level of confidence, unambiguous craft and timeless form aren’t often associated with a flat-pack, which is the very idea sitting at the heart of this collection. Inspired by how the way we live has evolved over the years, Nami began as an experimental venture that put the notion of what we consider flat-pack furniture to the test.

But the collection that started as a curious exploration of this easy-to-assemble design language has now redefined the aesthetic potential, level of craftsmanship and the type of materiality associated with furniture one assembles by themself.

Designed and made with exquisite finesse, the gentle yet self-assured shapes of the Round Dining Table, Rectangle Dining Table, Coffee Table and the Bed are all made with flat-packing solid timber, which opens up design possibilities for smaller and more challenging spaces – and ensures low-impact delivery and ease of installation. Both the tables and the bed can be put together or disassembled with the humble hex key, while still offering a sophisticated and stable structure, bound to last a lifetime.

And now, the Sydney-based designer brings Nami’s versatile and beautifully defined lines into the contract furniture space, as the collection is expanded with a Conference Table, just six months after the release of the original range.

While maintaining a clear visual connection with the unostentatious outline of the Rectangle Dining Table, the new addition offers its own take on Nami’s trademark visual expression. The robust dimensions of the new design boldly bring out the compelling and potent appeal of solid wood, while maintaining the same, humble profile as the rest of the collection.

The table is available in a beautiful selection of ash, black stained ash, oak and walnut finishes, offering a wide range of aesthetic outcomes defined by the honest articulation of its materiality. Made to order and with custom sizing available, the Conference Table will be an excellent addition to any commercial space, while the Low and High options – paired with a set of traditional chairs or higher stools, respectively – bring a level of versatility appropriate for any modern setting.

A result of patient craftsmanship, the Conference Table follows the path of Tom Fereday’s sincere design practice which celebrates both the qualities of the materials he works with, and the multifaceted character of the manufacturing process. An alluring combination of the two, the new addition further enhances the undeniable appeal of the collection – and accentuates the versatile charm of its artful and precise manifestation.
