Modern furniture with a local twist: Workspace x Instyle

One of Australia’s most respected commercial furniture manufacturers, Workspace has collaborated with Instyle to launch a range of high performance textiles and vinyls that celebrate Australian design and manufacturing.

Established in 1911, Workspace Commercial Furniture has provided revolutionary furniture solutions for aged care, healthcare, hospitality and workplace interiors for over 107 years. This proudly Australian-made and owned company offers bespoke and standard product options with an exceptional end-to-end approach to furniture design that has been built and refined over its long history.

With a mission to bring the best of Australian design to market, Workspace has partnered with Instyle, an Australian-born manufacturer of high-quality textiles, on the launch of a range of high-performance textiles and vinyls that bring a uniquely local flavour to Workspace’s collection of furniture products.

Inspired by Australia’s  resilient, rugged coastlines that are exposed to harsh elements, some of the textiles on offer include Instyle Omni, a high-performance indoor vinyl; Instyle Urban, a heavy-duty commercial textile; Instyle Coast, which is made using the sophisticated Crypton textile; and Instyle Haven, an elegant, highly usable high-performance fabric with a timeless texture.

When upholstered with these advanced textiles, Workspace’s furniture solutions are taken to a new level in both looks and functionality. The delicate curves and precision joinery of Workspace’s Wes Chair is accentuated by Omni’s smooth, woven-like appearance. With permanent stain protection, water and abrasion resistance, the Omni indoor vinyl range imbues the Wes Chair’s artful design with the resilience to withstand the most demanding commercial applications.

Workspace’s sophisticated A-Lounge is available in Instyle’s innovative Crypton textile, resulting in an appealing corduroy aesthetic suited to modern design trends. Not only good looking, the Crypton integrated fabric system features a permanent barrier for stain, odour, antibacterial and antimicrobial protection that increases the lifespan of the product.

The Instyle Urban range can be used on the Workspace Felix Lounge Chair for its subtle marle effect and soft handle, or choose the Rustic range for an aged, suede-like aesthetic. Unlike many high-performance fabrics, Urban features the additional performance properties of a bleach-cleanable fabric with a liquid barrier backing while retaining the beauty, character and softness of a woven textile that is easy to upholster.

Suited for hospitality environments, Instyle Haven is a heavy-duty commercial textile with a moisture barrier and stain resistant finish to provide enhanced cleanability.  Perfectly at home when used on the Felix or Wes Chair, Haven provides understated elegance alongside high levels of durability, function and performance.

After successful projects with leading European commercial furniture designers, Forma 5,  Workspace’s collaborations with local designers and suppliers such as Instyle serve to celebrate the design expertise and ingenuity found in Australian manufacturing. Over 80% of Instyle’s textiles and acoustic products are made locally, and the company shares Workspace’s design philosophy of simplicity, elegance, practicality, comfort and attention to detail.

Both companies also share an unwavering commitment to an environmental and sustainable approach. Workspace endeavours to provide an extensive range of furniture that meets the market’s need for sustainability. These efforts are only enhanced by the use of Instyle’s high-performance fabrics which are sourced and produced responsibly, meet environmental, health and safety standards and can contribute to Green Star, WELL and LEED sustainable building criteria.

Ideal for a wide range of applications, Workspace’s contemporary furniture pieces combined with Instyle’s high-quality textiles are the ideal solution for those seeking to add a distinctly Australian twist to commercial interiors.
