Designer Rugs at the Art Gallery

Designer Rugs joins The Art Gallery of NSW in the new Chiswicks restaurant.
Since 1885 The Art Gallery Of NSW has staged exhibitions by some of the world’s greatest artists. Everyone from Picasso to Pollock and Olley to Olsen have appeared on the hallowed walls. Designer Rugs is proud to join such esteemed company, having been selected to grace the floor of the superb new dining venue, CHISWICK at the Gallery.
Spearheading the project was Solotel’s Creative Director Anna Solomon along with Humphrey + Edwards Architects + Interior designers, who were well aware of our long association with prominent Australian artists and designers, including Minnie Pwerle, Dinosaur Designs, Catherine Martin, Camilla, and Akira Isogawa.
The architects requested that the rugs for the CHISWICK at the Gallery restaurant space appear ‘seasoned’; creating the impression that they had been well-loved. The brief also asked for an uneven pattern to provide a look of fluidity and texture.
Designer Rugs had just six weeks to design, produce and deliver the Gallery rugs. To achieve this deadline it was critical that we were incredibly responsive; working through the production process methodically and systematically.
Our Account Manager, Johnathan Murray was relentless in his coordination of all project touch points, ensuring we got the job done on time and to the brief.
“The biggest challenge was meeting the tight delivery deadlines,” Murray says. “We were able to turn both rugs – each of exceptional scale and size, measuring approximately 7700 x 6600mm and 7700 x 3700mm – within three weeks. Due to their sheer size we had to sea freight them to Sydney.
“I have a great fondness for the Art Gallery of NSW and am looking forward to viewing these rugs in the restaurant on my frequent visits.”
Designer Rugs Managing Director Yosi Tal says to achieve the tight deadline, the team assigned a weaving mill that specialises in the fast execution of large scale projects.
“Our 28 years of experience enables us to draw on an incredible wealth of international resources to get any project completed within a very limited time frame.
“This project shows that Designer Rugs has built its exceptional reputation on not only its quality handmade custom rugs and Axminster carpet, but its proven reliability in seeing a project through to the end…on time and on budget.”
