A standout in the Fleurieu Peninsula’s blend of boutique accommodation, the Coach House is an idyllic stone cottage getaway nestled on a rugged hillside in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Located among two award-winning wining and dining regions, this cottage retreat includes a fully-equipped country kitchen, cosy lounge, luxurious bedroom, bathroom and outdoors drinks’ deck with uninterrupted views across a steep valley and vineyards that crest rolling hills.
Set within a rambling acreage, nearby a vine-shrouded 1850 circa built homestead, this secluded couples retreat is a graceful counterpoint to the picturesque, yet sometimes harsh, Australian landscape. The property’s refurbishment, carefully crafted by Adelaide-based interior and design studio, Fabrikate, along with local builder G-Force, retains the sandstone cottage’s 19th century charm but is elevated with contemporary features and style.
No expense has been spared in transforming the Coach House’s interior into a two-storey luxury hideaway sought after by guests looking for premium accommodation. A muted colour palette, a distinctly Scandinavian minimalist style and the use of gentle furnishings that evoke the past accentuate the romantic, old-world character of each living space – an approach encapsulated by the selection of Remind armchairs from award-winning furniture manufacturer Pedrali.
Designed by Eugeni Quitllet the Remind collection includes a chair and armchair whose design recalls the soft, sinuous curves of wooden furniture of the late 19th century, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Made from a monoblock of injection-moulded polypropylene, the seat and backrest contribute to the chair’s airy, lightweight appearance, as well as its embrace of modern comfort and versatility. The essence of the chair is expressed through its sensual, organic silhouette that envelopes the user; its harmonious lines making it suitable for both outdoor and indoor use.
The Remind is a unique combination of innovative manufacturing techniques and classic design, which makes it perfectly at home within the Coach House’s enduring stone architecture. ‘Remind’ means to ‘call back back to mind’, a concept rendered in Latin by the word ‘re-cordis’, meaning ‘to pass through the heart’. This sentiment is one communicated by the Coach House, itself an insight into the fascinating history of the surrounding region.
As a celebration of the quiet, rural environment it belongs to, the Coach House’s refurbishment aims to be as low impact as possible. This mindset is reflected across all aspects of the project, from the recent efforts to restore the surrounding vineyards and grazing land using regenerative farming practices to the choice of objects and furniture that adorn the cottage’s interior.
In this respect, partnering with Pedrali was a conscious decision. In line with the company’s quest for environmental sustainability, the Remind is a chair mindfully fabricated to touch the earth lightly, and comes in a version made entirely from recycled material: 50% from plastic material post-consumer waste and 50% from plastic material industrial waste.
In both its aesthetic qualities and eco-friendly construction, the Remind reflects Pedrali’s long-established practice of combining innovation with tradition. Its contemporary furniture selections bring heart and soul to the Coach House, making for an unforgettable stay for even the most discerning guests.
